Be a Flat Friends Volunteer…
Volunteers help us support women who are living with, or facing, mastectomy without reconstruction in the UK. Our work would not be possible without you to strengthen our small team of trustees, and donating your time and skills could make a huge difference to women like you.
Our support is vital for women looking for information and understanding. We know that women who want to consider ordecide against reconstruction can feel misunderstood and unheard by their medical team, and even their family and friends. This is why our support services are so important – they give women a chance to talk openly with other women who understand what they are going through, and to help them make sure they are listened to in a positive way.
We are currently looking for volunteers in the following areas:
- Online Support Admins and Moderators
- Fundraising and Event Support
- Regional face-to-face meeting coordinators
Online Support Admins and Moderators
If you are confident using the internet or Facebook, and have time to spare regularly each week, you make like to apply to monitor and support discussions within our online support platforms. Admins (Facebook) and Moderators (website forum) would ideally be involved on a regular basis, and able to offer a few hours or days each week. You will be a good listener, understand confidentiality, and be a sympathetic and clear communicator. Your role would be to ensure discussions are respectful, supportive and on topic.

Fundraiser and Event Supporter
If you enjoy organising events, and want to promote Flat Friends UK and raise vital funds to help us continue our work, you may like to fundraise for us. We can supply printed materials such as flyers and sponsorship forms – these can also be downloaded from our website to help reduce costs. How you fundraise is up to you: bake sales and sponsored events are always popular. If you would like to commit a few hours each month, you could organise a regular coffee morning in your local area, and promote it through your Breast Care Unit or MacMillan Centre.
